Over deze freelancer
Frontend developer with five years of production experience in React and TypeScript, based in Utrecht and available for freelance assignments.
Most of my career has been spent building interfaces where the stakes are real — platforms used daily by research institutions for live experiments, where the software had to stay responsive and clear under continuous data load. That context shaped how I think about frontend work: performance matters, reliability matters, and the gap between technically correct and actually good is worth closing.
My background sits at an unusual intersection. My MSc is in Geomatics from TU Delft, and my early career was building geospatial applications: interactive maps, satellite data visualisations, spatial analysis tools. I have two live personal projects that show what I build when I have full technical ownership: an interactive sea surface height visualiser using WebGL and D3, and a collaborative mapping app with routing, multi-device accounts, and a full-stack Next.js and Supabase backend.
I use AI coding tools including Claude Code as a genuine part of my daily workflow, not as a shortcut but as a way to move faster on the parts that do not require judgement.
Available for frontend and full-stack assignments, with particular strength in data-heavy interfaces, real-time systems, and geospatial or map-based applications. Core stack: React, TypeScript, Next.js, WebSocket, WebRTC, Mapbox, Leaflet, Tailwind CSS, Node.js.

Global leader in behavioral research technology. Contributed to NoldusHub, a server-based platform supporting behavioral data management, real-time video observation, and sensor integrations. • Worked closely with product owners, UI/UX designers and backend teams to develop and maintain a large-scale, high-complexity, production-ready React.js application using TypeScript, Redux, Material UI, and Styled Components, delivering robust, scalable, responsive, and accessible front-end functionality. • Served as an active design collaborator throughout — working alongside the UI/UX team across all four years to review wireframes, provide feedback on interaction patterns, flag usability issues, and ensure design intent was faithfully implemented in production code. • Integrated AI tools including ChatGPT and Claude into the development workflow to accelerate implementation, support code review, improve test coverage, and explore design decisions. • Enhanced front-end architecture with modern libraries, standardised style guides, API optimisations, and a Micro-Frontend approach to improve scalability and maintainability. • Integrated third-party tools for help functionality and video management, streamlining workflows and enhancing platform usability. • Refactored complex legacy codebases, improving readability and performance, and reducing technical debt across 20,000+ lines of code. • Led bug resolution and performance optimisation initiatives, cutting load times and resource usage by up to 60%. • Implemented comprehensive unit testing with Jest and React Testing Library, raising code coverage by 70% and reducing regression incidents. • Upgraded WebRTC and WebSocket-based video streaming integration, doubling supported video streams while maintaining low latency for real-time research applications. • Mentored and onboarded three junior developers, establishing best practices and improving team efficiency.
International centre of excellence in geospatial analytics and earth observation. Conducted a project modelling and mapping tick occurrence in the Netherlands using machine learning and spatial analysis. • Developed machine learning forecasting models in Python to predict tick occurrence and distribution. • Built a web-based interface to make machine learning model outputs navigable and interpretable for researchers. • Conducted eye-tracking usability tests to evaluate interface clarity and user interaction. • Collaborated with researchers to refine UI design and data presentation based on user feedback.
Globally recognised research institute in water and environmental systems. Developed an interactive Web GIS solution for dynamic visualisation of sea surface height using animated geospatial maps. • Built an interactive Web GIS application from scratch using vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, gaining hands-on frontend development experience before transitioning to modern frameworks. • Implemented rich geospatial visualisations using Mapbox, Leaflet, Google Earth Engine, and Canvas — rendering animated, high-resolution oceanographic datasets directly in the browser. • Processed satellite raster datasets through Google Earth Engine for accurate, high-quality visualisations. • Automated geospatial data workflows using Google Cloud Functions. • Collaborated with domain experts to ensure scientific accuracy and usability of the visual outputs.
