Lead AI Scientist – AI Claims Automation – 32-40 uur | 90-100 EU p.u.

Join a venture-building team within a large insurance group to build a groundbreaking agentic AI platform that reimagines how insurance claims are processed. As a founding AI scientist, you'll work alongside product and engineering leaders to create autonomous AI systems from concept to market. This is a rare opportunity to help launch a potential new venture while shaping the future of insurance.

You will be one of the key technical creators of an AI-native claims platform that combines autonomous AI agents, machine learning, advanced analytics and workflow orchestration to transform the way insurers handle claims, built on foundational AI models developed internally within the organization. Working alongside the Chief Product Officer and software engineers, you will design, prototype and deploy the intelligence layer that powers the next generation of claims automation.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop and evaluate agentic AI systems that automate and augment end-to-end claims processes
• Build machine learning models, LLM-based solutions, orchestration frameworks and decision engines using structured and unstructured claims data
• Translate business opportunities into experiments, prototypes and production-ready AI capabilities, working closely with the Chief Product Officer and engineering team
• Establish data science best practices including model evaluation, monitoring, explainability, governance and responsible AI principles
• Drive innovation by identifying emerging AI techniques and applying them to create differentiated insurance products and experiences

What we're looking for:

• Strong background in Data Science, Machine Learning, AI, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline
• Hands-on experience developing AI/ML solutions, ideally including LLMs, generative AI, agentic AI frameworks or autonomous decisioning systems
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in ambiguity and build solutions from scratch
• Strong communicator who can collaborate effectively with product, engineering, business and external stakeholders
• Passionate about transforming customer experiences through technology and excited by the prospect of helping create a new venture

Details:

1. Hourly rate: €80-95 per hour
2. Hours: 32-40 hours per week
3. Start date: in overleg
4. Execution: hybrid, official location The Hague, with the team also working from Amsterdam one day a week
